At 6:30 p.m., St. Augustine’s Spanish Garrison conducts a 1740 Changing of the Guard Ceremony in the city’s Plaza de la Constitucion. The event begins at 5:30 p.m., with two groups of soldiers marching from the Spanish Bakery — one heads north on St. George Street to the City Gate and the other group comes south on the street to the Governor’s House where they will demonstrate Spanish military arts and explain the purpose of the Changing of the Guard. At 6:15 p.m., after greeting the public at the City Gate, the second group of soldiers march down St. George Street to join their comrades at the Governor’s House where the Changing of the Guard, complete with a volley of musketry, will be performed. The Garrison will then march back to the Spanish Bakery. St. George St., and Governor’s House on the Plaza, St. Augustine.
