The 2016 Great Chowder Debate
If you love clam chowder then this is the event for you. All of the restaurants in St. Augustine gather at the Conch House Marina to compete in Annual Great Chowder Debate fort the title of “best chowder”. There are 5 different categories: Minorcan Clam Chowder, New England Clam Chowder, Seafood Chowder and Non-Seafood Chowder. With over 30 local vendors you are sure to get your fill!
As legend has it the Great Chowder Debate began in 1984 when David Ponce owner of the Conch House Marina and his chef debated which was better New England Clam Chowder versus Minorcan Conch Chowder. They realized that the debate was bigger than the two of them so they decided to let the community decide and the Great Chowder Debate was born! Over 30 local vendors
This event is hosted by The Conch House Marina Resort, and proceeds will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of St. Johns County. Tickets for tastes of chowder will be sold for $1 each. Patrons are welcomed to vote on their favorite chowders to decide which wins the “People’s Choice” award. Beverages including beer, soda, tea, and water will also be available for purchase during this event.
