3 Nights in the Nation’s Oldest City (1st Night)

Carriage Way Bed & Breakfast hosts many wonderful newcomers to St. Augustine and part of our welcome is to provide a complimentary concierge service and orientation of the Nation’s Oldest City. More often than not, guests who have only planned an overnight trip, express remorse that more time had not been allotted to exploring all that St. Augustine has to offer. The aim of this article series is to provide potential new guests with a three day itinerary highlighting the “Must See’s” of St. Augustine, FL.

Day 1:

Arrive at Carriage Way Bed & Breakfast, 70 Cuna Street, and park in our on-site parking. Come on inside and make yourself at home in our Victorian Parlor. Sip on a refreshing beverage of wine, soda or fruit infused ice water while we provide an orientation of St. Augustine.

After unpacking and taking a brief respite in your room, strike out to begin your exploration of the Nation’s Oldest City! Head East on Cuna Street and you will discover St. George Street, a mere two blocks away from Carriage Way.  St. George street is a pedestrian walking mall lined with shops, restaurants, gelato stores, bars and more. An assortment of live and local musicians can be heard from almost every block.

Located at the North end of St. George Street is the St. Augustine City Gate built of coquinaa soft limestone of broken shells, dating back to 1808. From the gate, follow the reconstructed Spanish Cubo Line Defense System East to the bayfront, and you will see the Castillo de San Marcos Fort. Admittance into the Fort is $10 for a pass which is valid for 7 consecutive days (National Park Pass holders are admitted for free, so be sure to pack your pass!). Tours are self guided however, there are Park Rangers on hand to help answer any questions.
