450th Procession and Reenactment
Tuesday, September 8th, 2015 marked St. Augustine’s 450th birthday! To commemorate this event, a historical reenactment of Pedro Menendez and crew rowing to St. Augustine’s shores took place at the Mission Nombre de Dios.
From the mission grounds, a 450 Procession took place along the bayfront of St. Augustine ending at the Cathedral Basilica where a 450th commemorative Mass was held. Cardinal Sean Patrick O’Malley, OFM Cap, was appointed by the Pope to lead the Mass. The Cathedral Mass was fully attended with viewers spilling out onto the church courtyard where a jumbo screen was set up for folks to view from outside.
