Amphitheater provides steady boost to local economy

For the past year, we here at Carriage Way Bed and Breakfast have been singing the praises of the St. Augustine Amphitheater. Ryan Murphy (General Manager) and the rest of his staff have done an absolutely outstanding job bringing world class bands and performers to perform here in St. Augustine. The Amphitheater has long been a topic of debate amongst city officials, who have long speculated that the Amphitheater would be better off in the hands of a third party management company. This debate seems to finally be settled after a recent impact study estimates that the Amphitheater has a total impact of 17.3 million and 10.3 million is value added.

“If you’re still considering whether the Amphitheatre is a worthwhile investment for the county, if you just take the $10 million in gross domestic product as a measure of net income and divide it by the $5 million operating budget, you get a benefit cost ratio of about 2:1, which by conventional standards would be a good investment,” Said Alan Hodges who was the co-author of the impact study. The study found that 65% of people attending concerts at the Amphitheater came from out of town which helps to further contribute to the tourism and hospitality industry for the area. Carriage Way Bed and Breakfast regularly hosts guests attending concerts and special events.
