Corazón Cinema and Café

Corazón Cinema and Café

After months of planning and years of dreaming, Corazón Café is finally becoming a reality. Karla and Bob Wagner purchased the building from Kenneth Pierce who has owned the building since 1977. The building has previously operated as a cigar factory, an upholstery shop and a feed store. The historic building has been operating a small theater for many years now, but with Karla and Bob’s vision, the residents of St. Augustine are confident they will bring the business to its full potential.

The new owners held a contest to decide the name of their new theater, and they invited all of St. Augustine to submit ideas. After sorting through hundreds of suggestions, they found the name Corazón Cinema and Café. Corazón translated literally means heart, which was perfect because the business is in the heart of the historic district, and the owners have put their whole heart into this project. The winner of the contest was given free movie tickets for 1 year.

The café will be run by two of St. Augustine’s most well known chefs, Joe and Tami Abel, who have been running the kitchen for The Cheese Wheel, one of St. Augustine’s best restaurants for years.  With the Cheese Wheel owners retiring at the end of summer, Joe and Tami have decided to undergo a new business venture. The theater will be operating 3 screens, showing indie films and second running major movies.
