Your assistance is required. It’s a lot of pressure, but we think you’re up to it. There’s a rivalry, you see, among some of St Augustine’s best chefs. So on Thursday, May 25, they are going to get together and flex their culinary muscles in the Great Chefs of St Augustine event.
Here’s where you come in: they need someone to judge the food.
Two teams will compete. Team Island will feature chefs from Gas Full Service, the Reef, the Purple Olive, Caps on the Water, and for the cocktail round, Conch House. It gets worse. Representing Team Mainland will be chefs from Crème de la Cocoa, The Floridian, Casa Monica, Collage, and in the cocktail competition, Ice Plant.
Diners must be very brave. There will be four courses, paired with wine. Each course will feature an amazing dish from each team. It will be your duty to pick a favorite dish from each round.
This is the third year that Jacksonville Magazine will present the Great Chefs of St Augustine event. All of the proceeds will purchase food for the Weekend Hunger Backpack Program and the Back Roads Program, two organizations providing nutritious food to children in the St Augustine area.
Tickets are $150 per person, and they are available here. Great Chefs of St Augustine will take place at The River House, on Thursday, May 25, from 6:00-10:00 PM.
The River House is on Marine Street, so it will be an easy walk back to Carriage Way Bed and Breakfast, even after the hard work of sampling the best food in St Augustine. Whichever room you choose, you’ll have a comfortable bed to tumble into.
The Tanzanite room, for example, has a gorgeous King bed with a pillow-top mattress. It is done in lovely lavenders and violets, and it’s got a walk-in shower with a rain head shower and two body sprays. And in the morning, you’ve got another great meal ahead of you: the hot and scrumptious Carriage Way chef’s choice breakfast.
So gather your strength and come to St Augustine for the Great Chefs of St Augustine event and Carriage Way Bed and Breakfast. One warning: when you tell the tale, no one is going to feel sorry for you.
