Local restaurant receives national award

Located on Charlotte Street, in the heart of downtown St. Augustine is The Chianti Room Italian restaurant. This local mom and pop shop has been in operation since 2006, and has always been popular amongst locals and tourists alike. The staff has worked for years to provide flawless customer service, and the owners have committed to using nothing but the freshest, most high quality ingredients. The plan has paid off big time, and in July the restaurant was honored with a national award for excellence from the American Culinary Federation.

In addition to The Chianti Room, which is a full service Italian restaurant, the owners also operate a local pizza restaurant called Pizzalley's. Pizzalley's is only 11 feet wide, but is very well known for having the best, most affordable pizza in downtown St. Augustine. The owners, Tom and Carol Sheltra, were extremely excited to be honored with this award. As a husband and wife team for many years, they have learned through trial and error what works. Tom experimented with different sauces for many years before eventually perfecting the one they now serve, and Carol works as the dessert chef for The Chianti Room. In addition to a happy hour that features all drinks (even top shelf) buy one get one free, the Sheltra's also feature a new wine list every quarter. Less than 20 restaurants in the United States were honored with this award, which should speak volumes of the Sheltra's hard work.

The Chianti Room and Pizzalley's pizzeria are only 2 short blocks from Carriage Way Bed and Breakfast. Come enjoy The Chianti Room and all of the other great things that the nation's oldest city has to offer.
