"The Tasting Room" has been a signature Tapa's restaurant for many years in downtown St. Augustine, and Michael Lugo has been the executive chef at this establishment since 2006. This Spanish themed tapa's restaurant features arguably the best wine selection in St. Augustine, with a fine dining atmosphere that is top class.
Michael Lugo's passion for cooking started at a very early age, watching his grandmother prepare traditional Hispanic food for his friends and family. His passion for cooking never slowed down throughout his life. Even as a star football player in college, some of Michael’s most fond memories involved cooking for his college friends and team mates.
Michael worked for Chef Richard Chamberlin, arguably one of the best chefs in the last 25 years, and it was through this experience that Michael perfected his craft. Michael now works daily to train his entire staff to provide the best possible fine dining experience. In May, Michael became a managing partner and changed the name of the restaurant to "Michael's Tasting Room."
Most notable, Michael's Tasting Room now features a chefs table with 2 seating times per night. The Chefs table is available at 6pm or 9pm and also has the option for wine pairings with each course.
In addition to Michael’s tireless efforts at “Michael’s Tasting Room,” Michael recently began overseeing two more small restaurants downtown. The “Taberna Del Caballo” and “Bull and Crown” are both café’s located on historic St. George Street, right in the heart of downtown St. Augustine. These two establishments received major restoration in association with the Colonial Quarter living history museum.
St. Augustine has a seemingly never ending supply of restaurant’s to keep you happy while touring around the nation’s oldest city. Under the direction of Michael Lugo, three of St. Augustine’s establishments have improved significantly, and we’re confident they will continue to do so.
