Dominating the west end of the Town Plaza, the Governor's House is a unique Spanish land use component lying within a National Historic Landmark District. Spain's 1573 Law of the Indies, Leyes de Los Indies, specified that colonial town plans set aside such a plaza for the government, church, and public use.
Located at 48 King Street, the museum is open to the public daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with exhibits and visitor information services. Explaining the rich history of Government House and its prominent location in the St. Augustine historic district, the Indies, Leyes de Los Indies, specified that colonial town plans set aside such a plaza for the government, church, and public use.

What Guests Are Saying About the Museum

A must see...

It's not one of the most well known attractions in St. Augustine, which is a shame. It was full of interesting exhibits and information. We were there for about an hour as we dropped in close to closing time. We would have stayed longer as it was so well done. There is no entrance fee.
Excellent view of the History of St Augustine

This free self tour is an informative review of the history of St Augustine. There are some beautiful artifacts and photographs as well as video screens highlighting various times in history.
Nice surprise!

Stopped in to what was here and found a free display by the University of Florida. We got an interesting look at the local history. I was happy we stopped and really enjoyed the displays! Definitely stop in and take a look!
Great history...

We really enjoyed Government House because of the historical meaning for a better understanding of American history. It gives an excellent idea of early life in the oldest city in the USA. The displays in the Museum are well displayed and easy to understand. It is well worth the trip.
Hidden gem.

This free site is run by the University of Florida and features a museum-quality historical exhibit. Take the time to stop here when you're in Old Town.
