Housed in the former Alcazar Hotel built by Henry Flagler in 1888, the Lightner Museum is home to one of the finest collections of fine and decorative 19th century art in the country. The museum is open to the public seven days a week and features demonstrations of antique mechanical musical instruments. Self-guided tours and tours by reservation are available.

Preserve, maintain, research, and interpret the Museum's collections for the educational benefit of the visiting public. The Museum is a non-profit cultural institution sustained by admissions and donations, and it is supported by a dedicated staff of volunteers.
Loved all of the collections I love collecting things and this is the ultimate collection of collections! I could have twice as much time there but had a 2 o'clock ticket for the Flagler museum across the street. There are cute gift shops selling artistic items and reproductions. Wear comfortable shoes...lots of walking and standing in order to see all of the floors.
Fantastic Museum Relatives told us that this was the best thing to do in St. Augustine. They were right. The museum is in Henry Flagler's former Alcazar Hotel. The grandeur of the hotel, fountains and grounds is still intact. Lightner was an avid collector so there is something of interest to everyone. Docents are friendly and most helpful. We spent quite a few hours enjoying each of the multiple areas of this museum.
Absolutely Amazing This is NOT a stuffy museum but rather a glimpse into another (albeit rarefied) world. From the building, itself, to the objects housed in it, your senses are in for a treat beyond compare. It is difficult to believe that so much beauty can exist in one place! Make time for a visit and enjoy.
