What Cuna Street Feels Like in the Morning

The historic district wakes up slowly. Cuna Street is one of the quieter blocks — brick-lined, residential at the edges, just off the main pedestrian streets. Mornings are the best time on it.

Coffee starts in the dining room. We don't put out a buffet. Breakfast is plated and served, and there's no fixed slot — come down whenever you actually wake up. Most guests linger longer than they planned, especially on the first morning.

By the time you walk out the front door, the city is just beginning to move. Castillo de San Marcos opens at 9. Most shops on St. George Street are open by then too. Walking from the inn, the fort is about ten minutes; the heart of St. George Street is about five.

The pace of the district favors people who don't rush. We tell guests to plan one fewer thing than they think they want to do, and to leave time to sit on a bench somewhere. The list of things to see in St. Augustine is endless. The reason to come back is the parts in between.
