The Spanish Military Hospital Museum gives visitors a chance to travel back in time to learn about medical practices and procedures in the Colonial Spanish Period of St. Augustine. The 40-minute fully-guided tour of the museum offers a glimpse into another world, with demonstrations of "cutting edge" colonial surgery techniques by the Museum staff.
Showing guests how herbs used in colonial times were the origins of some of the most popular medicines today, the Apothecary offers herbs that can be found in the Apothecary's garden at the Museum.
Educational tours begin with one of the staff's "skilled surgeons" performing virtual surgery on a lucky volunteer, and include discussions of the importance of good health practices and details about some of the modern uses for colonial medicines.

This is an interesting tour-you will learn a lot that you didn't know, and have some misconceptions about medicine in the past broken. Joshua was a great tour guide-patient, knowledgeable, friendly. If you like history, this is a good choice.

Anybody for some surgery?
This place takes you back in time where amputations were the norm for severe injuries. They demonstrate for you how these procedures were done. These settlers were pretty rugged people.
Must see!
One of the most memorable experiences of the trip. Takes about half an hour but it is a great place to sit down, cool off, and learn about amputations, ailments, and herbs before modern medicine.
Amazing History!!
I am a physician, so found this to be the best thing I did in St. Augustine! The history of how the early doctors cared for patients and their procedures were excellent! Well worth your time!

The tour guide was amazing and knew the answers to all my questions. Though small, I found the museum really fascinating. The gift shop has cool stuff, too!
